The Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association

About RISAA

A nonprofit organization, created to provide a forum for recreational saltwater anglers; to provide education to members and the public concerning fishing techniques, improved catches, and overall enjoyment of fishing; to foster sportsmanship; to support marine conservation and sound management of fisheries resources; and provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing in Rhode Island.


New England Fishery Management Council

One of eight regional councils established by federal legislation in 1976, is charged with conserving and managing fishery resources from three to 200 miles off the coasts of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

The Division of Marine Fisheries manages the state’s commercial and recreational saltwater fisheries and oversees other services that support the marine environment and fishing communities. Salties coordinates with the DMF to testify on behalf of sustainable fisheries.

Barnstable County League of Sportsmen’s Clubs

The purpose of this organization is to have a membership of delegates from all the sportsman’s clubs in Barnstable, Nantucket and Dukes County; to carry on a co-operative program for the protection, propagation, conservation and restoration of forests and wildlife; to promote and establish more cordial relations between sportsmen and landowners; to introduce and assist in the passing of laws for the good of the aforementioned purposes; to do such things as the majority of the member clubs may decide to do; and to promote in the proper manner the legitimate interests of the sportsmen


Friends of Herring River - Tidal Restoration – Wellfleet/Truro

Herring River Tidal Restoration Project

Encompassing nearly 1,000 acres and over 6 miles of waterways, the Herring River in Wellfleet and Truro is one of the largest tidally-restricted estuaries in the northeastern United States.


Friends of Bass River

Friends of Bass River

A group of private citizens dedicated to the guardianship of the ponds, coves and sub-basins of the Bass River Estuarine System. Our mission, through monitoring, vigilance and direct management, is to help preserve and protect Bass River’s delicate ecosystem


Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod (APCC)

The mission of the APCC is to preserve, protect and enhance the natural resources of Cape Cod. Salties annually coordinate with APCC the counting of herring. In addition, we’ve partnered with APCC to fight the pollution of Cape Cod Bay with radiated waste water from the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
